Yet another great, quick read over at the Manageability.org website that really makes you sit back and ponder. Here’s one of my hot tips for all you coders: LEARN .NET pronto!! I have seen the light. Have you peeps seen the hot jobs for ASP.NET application developers on Dice.com?? Take a peek at this UK job site too. And there’s tons of them. Besides I’m a former ASP/SQL Server 7/VB6 developer, so retooling shouldn’t be a big problem for me. But I’ve taken the .NET plunge and C# (pronounced C-sharp) is going to be my language of choice for commercial consulting. That’s the main .NET language created by Microsoft. Some peeps say the language was born with a silver spoon in its mouth. Why? Because you can literally create anything in C#: Web applications, desktop apps, web services, software components, etc.
Don’t get me wrong! I’m still going to explore PHP and Python but, let’s face it, in the corporate world, Microsoft rules. End of story. And I do have to eat, right? Heck that company has pile of cash (between $20-40 billion) in the bank. Who on earth can compete with pockets so deep? Oh, once you see the free developer tools they give away to get you hooked on .NET, you too will see the green light to the cash register.
Happy programming!

I agree to some extent that Microsoft’s got the resources to push it’s technology.
But on the other hand, Open Source is dominating a sizable stake in the corporate world. For instance, look at the market MySql’s MaxDb is dominating: http://dev.miysql.com/doc/maxdb/pdf/profdb.pdf
