I'm glad I abandoned Blogger as quickly as Captain Picard would say "All hands abandon ship!!" on Star Trek: Next Generations. :-) As of today, broadband in Nairobi has improved immensely. The fibre optic cables have landed and ISPs have now connected to them. I downloaded Linux Mint 8 on Sunday evening in about 1 hour 30 minutes. That's close to a 700 MB iso image file. That was on Access Kenya. Africa Online's iBurst is also improved and fast as hell now that they're on the fibre. We consistently get 45 Kbps to 85 Kbps (that's a capital K) all the way out here by ISK near Gachie/Kitisuru. The word on the street from a Telkom Orange vendor is that their EV-DO 3G offering is a better product than Safaricom's because they don't have nearly as many customers as the "better option" (Safaricom) so lots of data availability is flowing in places that have Telkom 3G...and that's going at around KSh 1 per megabyte.
